Elizabeth Ellsworth is a writer, educator, and collaborative artist.  She recently published her first Young Adult novel entitled Solid, Broken, Changing (2019) It was inspired by her experiences of co-existence on a radically changing planet Earth.

With Jamie Kruse, she co-directs smudge studio (smudgestudio.org), based in Brooklyn, NY and Provincetown, MA. Their projects connect daily life experiences to vast, generative forces of geological and cosmological change. The story of Solid, Broken, Changing grew out of their work as artists living in the Anthropocene.

As part of the collaboration, Elizabeth uses photography (digital and 35mm) and video to visualize or signal powerful, invisible forces (natural and human-made) that shape daily life. She is Emeritus Professor of Media Studies, The New School, New York City, and a member of the Atomic Photographers Guild.
